The area representative is a very important connection between the student, the host family and OCEAN's directors.
He/she serves as the steppingstone or contact person for the students and host families and will assist them
throughout the student's stay in the U.S.  The area representative is entailed with the following responsibilities:

  • Acquiring vacancies for international exchange students at local high schools.
  • Seeking and interviewing prospective host families in their home.
  • Providing the host family with an orientation to prepare them for the student's arrival in their home.
  • Maintaining monthly contact with the student, host family and school.
  • Completing evaluation reports.
  • Assisting the student and host family with any problems that they may have.

Area Representative Compensation:

Area representatives are paid based on their experience in the field.  Inexperienced representatives can expect between
$375 and $500 per placement while experienced representatives can expect between $600 and $800.  The total
amount of payment depends upon the length of the student's stay in the U.S. (semester or year).  In order to determine
whether or not you qualify as an experienced representative, you must furnish OCEAN with both host family and high
school references.  These references will be contacted by an OCEAN recruiter to determine your level of experience in
the field, as well as your relationship and involvement with host families and local school officials.
